ASME A112.4.4-2017 pdf download.Plastic Push-Fit Drain, Waste, and Vent (DWV) Fittings.
1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Scope This Standard covers reversible push-fit drain, waste, andvent(DWV) fittingsintendedforquickassemblyofIPS Schedule 40 series PVC and ABS DWV plastic pipe and fittings for applications above- and belowground at temperatures from32°F to 140°F (0°C to 60°C), andspeci- fies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance testing, and markings. Notes accompanying sections of this Standard do not specify requirements or alternative requirements; their purpose is to separate explanatory or informative mate- rial from the text. Notes to tables and figures are consid- ered part of the table or figure and are requirements. 1.2 Alternative Materials The requirements ofthis Standard are not intended to prevent the use of alternative materials or methods of construction, provided such alternatives meet the intent and requirements of this Standard. 1.3 Units of Measurement Where values are stated in U.S. Customaryunits and the International System of Units (SI), the U.S. Customary units shall be considered the standard. 1.4 Patents ThereisapossibilitythatcompliancewiththisStandard may require use ofan invention covered by patent rights. By publication ofthis Standard, no position is taken with respectto the validityofanysuch claim(s) orofanypatent rightsinconnectiontherewith.Ifapatentholderhasfileda statement of willingness to grant a license under these rights on reasonable and nondiscriminatory terms and conditions to applicants desiring to obtain such a license, then details can be obtained from ASME. 1.5 References This Standard references the following publications, and where such reference is made, it shall be to the latesteditionincludingallamendmentspublishedthereto. The following definitions shall apply in this Standard: can: expresses a possibility or a capability. IPS Schedule 40 Series: pipe produced to an iron pipe outside diameter with a Schedule 40 wall thickness. may:expressesanoptionorsomethingpermissiblewithin the scope of this Standard. push-fit fitting: a fitting with a push-on joint type with an elastomeric gasket providing a compressive force against the spigot and socket after assembly to provide a perma- nent seal. reversible: able to be reversed; having the ability to be removed and reused. Schedule: a pipe-size system (outside diameter and wall thickness) originated by the iron-pipe industry. shall: expresses a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy to comply with this Standard. should: expresses a recommendation but not a requirement.
2.5 Stainless Steel At a minimum, stainless steel components shall be Series 300 complying with the requirements of ASTM A240/A240M. 3 TESTING REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Tests for Push-Fit DWV Fittings 3.1.1 General. Tests specified in paras. 3.2 to 3.4 shall be conducted using plastic pipe conforming to the dimen- sional requirements in ASTM D2665 with the restrained pipe lengthof12 in. to 36 in. (305 mm to 914 mm), and the unrestrained pipe length of66 in. to 72 in. (1 676 mm to 1 829 mm) per Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3. 3.1.2 Coupling. The unrestrained hydrostatic test, shear test, and deflection test shall be conducted using a coupling. NOTE: A coupling is a connecting piece or sleeve. 3.1.3 Records. Records oftests shall be maintained by the manufacturer for 3 yr. 3.2 Unrestrained Hydrostatic Test Procedure Test one fitting as follows: Step 1: Install one push-fitDWVfittingaccordingto the manufacturer’s instructions, and assemble between the restrained and unrestrained pipe lengths in para. 3.1.1 and as shown in Figure 1. Step 2: Secure a restrained support within 2 in. (51 mm) from the nearest side of the coupling to be tested such that the support will allow any movement that the coupling may make during the test. Step 3: Subject the pipe assembly to hydrostatic pres- sure. Increase the hydrostatic pressure at a rate of 1 psi (6.9 kPa) every 30 sec until 15 psi (103.4 kPa) is reached, and hold the 15 psi (103.4 kPa) pressure for 5 min. There shall be no leakage.
